Probably applicable to the Marines over in Bezerkely, too...

During my lunchtime meanderings today, I passed by the SF Armed Forces Recruitment office (hard to believe - but there IS one here). It's tucked away down a quiet street on the outskirts of the Financial District. I had been past there several times over the years, but today was the first time I actually saw someone who worked there. A solider was outside - presumably on break - using the phone.

I was horribly tempted to ask if the recruiters working here were eligible for Hardship Duty Pay, due to the hostile nature of most of the natives [/sarcasm]...but, seeing as he was otherwise engaged, I minded my own business and continued on my walk.

NEXT time . . .

Well... if the recruiters DON'T get hazardous duty pay, they most certainly SHOULD.

OTOH... I was amazed at how run-of-the-mill, average citizens treated the Navy during Fleet Week. Impressed, too. SFO isn't completely full of idjits.

True, true...SFO is not so bad - not compared to Berkeley, anyways. However, during fleet week, it's mostly a lot of people from the outerlying areas coming to town for the festivities. The locals seem to only want to complain about the noise from the Blue Angels and traffic down the Embarcadero.

You don't have to tell me about Berkeley, Katy. I lived there for a year when I moved to SFO. ;-)A never-ending source of entertainment for me while in Berkeley was to wear one of my "Peace Through Superior Firepower" tee shirts (and I had a LOT of them, in various flavors) and go have a cappuccino at one of the coffee houses on Sunday mornings... Big Fun!
